Inter Departmental Bilingual Declamation Contest-2008

English (Serious Topics)

Rules of Participation

1. Each participating College/Institute/Centre/Department is to be represented by a team comprising of two speakers only, one to speak in Urdu and the other in English. One of the Speakers is to speak on a serious topic and the other on a humorous one.
2. The competition will comprise of a single round only.
3. A speaker will speak for a minimum of a 4 and a maximum of 6 minutes. Marks will be deducted for failing to observe the stipulated time.
4. A speaker making offensive remarks about any important personage or passing controversial religious, political or sectarian remarks shall be immediately disqualified. Using words / sentences with any indecent connotation and passing derogatory remarks against the chair will lead to instant disqualification of the speaker. In such an event the speaker may be asked to step down from podium during speech.
5. The speaker will judge on the contents of their speech, and their proficiency of the respective language and the response of the audience.
6. Paper reading is not allowed, those who do so will be disqualified.
7. Speakers should refrain from using excessive Urdu in their English speeches and vice versa.
8. There will be three prizes, the team that gains the maximum aggregate point will get the running trophy. The two best speakers, from both English and Urdu, will also be awarded prizes. A consolation prize may also be provided.
9. The decision of the judges will be final.
10. All students must be accompanied by a department adviser/teacher.

Urdu “Mubahisa” Committee:

Rules and Regulation:

1. Each team will consist of two poets. One for “Ghazal” and the other “Nazam”.
2. A “Ghazal” should be five to seven verses.
3. Time for “Nazam” will be 3 to 4 minutes. After four minutes the first warning bell will be sounded. Those who fail to keep the time limit will be penalized.
4. Poet will not be allowed to make objectionable poetry about chair, any political party, religious sect, important personalities, national leaders, the armed forces of Pakistan, courts of law or government agencies.
5. There will be three prizes in Mushaira. Apart from this, there will be a special prize for the best poet of the competition. Team scoring the highest points will be awarded team trophy.
6. The decision of the Judges will be final.
7. Four copies of “Ghazal” and “Nazam” be provided at the time of competition to judges.
