CALL FOR PAPERS FOR ONE DAY CONFERENCE


March 8th is International Women's day, though it is meaningless to fix one day of the year as women all over the world win struggles in their daily lives and they don't stop to commemorate. As per the tradition of Department of Applied Psychology, University of the Punjab, Lahore, this year we have decided to hold a one day conference on 11 March, 2010 on the topic of “Resilience, coping strategies and reconstruction of self among Women” to commemorate this propitious occasion.

Therefore, you are invited to read your research paper on resilience and coping of women with diverse stressful situations and adversities such as traumas, illnesses, harassment, caregiving etc. It would be highly appreciated if you can send us abstract for oral presentation by 20 th February 2010. Please do circulate this information to your colleagues as well. After receiving your research abstracts you will be emailed details program of the conference.


Celebration on “Universal Human Rights Day”

Human Rights Day was celebrated at Department of Applied Psychology, University of the Punjab, New Campus, Lahore. The theme of the day was “Psychological Effects of Human Rights Violation”. Students of the department presented skits and mime show based on ideas of human rights violation.


Speeches and Poetry competition were also held. Stalls from various NGOs including Aurat Foundation, Doors of Awareness, Shirkat Gah, Medecins DU Monde and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan were also displayed.


Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Kausar, Chairperson expressed her appreciation for students, faculty and staff's efforts. She emphasized that on this day we must remind ourselves if we are vigilant in protecting others' rights and not causing any type of distress to the fellow beings. The Chairperson, faculty members and students prayed for peace, equality and justice for all humanity.

A SEMINAR ON WOMEN DAY

Department of Applied Psychology University of the Punjab arranged an auspicious seminar to celebrate the services of Women in Higher Management. The Eve was honored by the guest speakers Prof. Dr. Shahina Asif, Prof. Dr. Najma Najam, Dr. Zaiba Ahmad, Prof. Dr. Nasira Jadoon, Dr. Shehla Javed Akram, and Ms. Mussrat Misbah. These acclaimed, eminent women shared their valuable experiences about women in higher management. They identified the detrimental factors that debar women from reaching executive positions inspite of the fact that proportion of women is quite high in lower management. The honorable speakers expressed that women are successful managers because they have inherent potential to manage their homes and work place equally well inspite of dual burden. This vision was also expressed that by gaining self-assertion and self-confidence they can climb the ladder of higher management more effectively. The Chairperson of the department Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Kausar at the end acknowledged the worthy presence of guests and thanked all her faculty members, support staff and students for their active contribution in the arrangement of the seminar. Dr. Shahida Manzoor from College of Arts & Design, University of the Punjab arranged the painting exhibition by women artists. Stalls by female artisans were also arranged and visited by a large number of the students from the University.
