Conversion of Syllabus into Curriculum

The old system of syllabus, which covered only the contents and did not include methods of teaching and assessment/evaluation strategies resulting into rote learning through 2/3 text books, has been converted into curriculum. The new curriculum offers learner centered approach, intellectual development and creativity. Revised Curricula includes following:-

Main Library

We have one main library and 46 departmental libraries.

a. In 1999 there was not a single computer. The library has been automated and provided 120 computers. Internet lab established in 1999 has now become the biggest lab among academic libraries of Pakistan. There are 3000 registered members and 200 members use the lab daily.

b. The main library carries a book collection of 5,00,000. It subscribes 110 foreign / local journals and 319 are received as donation or exchange bases. The library fulfils the information needs of 23000 students and more than 500 teachers annually. Nearly more than 125000 books are borrowed and 400000 books / journals consulted by users annually. The total number of the library visitors during were 441000(Almost an average of 1200 visitors/users daily).

c. The library has it’s own website containing a unique virtual library (library beyond the walls) to compliment rapidly growing variety of online collections. The virtual library’s pages provide comprehensive starting point for accessing databases, electronic information and reference sources. Over 18,000 online full text foreign journals are available free of cost to the teachers, students and researchers.
 

Gujranwala – Sub-Campus

PU Sub-Campus has been established at Gujranwala aimed to facilitate higher education outside Lahore. The Vice-Chancellor, announced establishment of the Campus on 28 November, 2004 and was established on 30 April 2005 for teaching of Business Administration, Commerce, Law and Information Technology. The Punjab University is also planning to set up its sub-campuses at Dubai, Attock, Rawalpindi, Okara and Chakwal etc.
 

Internal Peer Review Guide-lines

 

Internal Peer Review Guide-lines have been issued to all the Deans and Heads of departments and is being implemented through Internal-Peer Review Committees for assessment and evaluation of academic and administrative efficiency of departments copy enclosed.

Internal Peer Review Guide-lines

Internal Peer Review System has been launched to assess and evaluate Punjab University Departments/Centres/Institutes/Constituent Colleges and Academic Administration/Management. The review has been designed to assess efficiency and performance of the faculty, students, academic administration, implementation of curriculum and improvement of enabling environment. The review will also give feed back for improvement of university governance and management to enhance efficiency at all levels.

A standard format in the form of Peer Review Guide-lines has been issued. All the headings under General, Teachers, Students, Curriculum and Enabling Environment will be reviewed and commented upon to ensure that true picture emerges for overall improvement in the development of higher education
