PU CSAS organizes seminar


LAHORE: (Friday, January 15, 2016): Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) organized a lecture on “Constitutional Statues of Gilgit Baltistan; A Way Forward”. Director CSAS Prof Dr Umbreen Javaid, Senior Advocate Supreme Court Appellate Court GB Mir Akhlaq Hussain, faculty members and MPhil/PhD scholars of CSAS and Department of Political Science were present on the occasion. In his address Mir Akhlaq Hussain described the historical background of Gilgit Baltistan, its geographical and legal issues related to teh region of GB. He dejectedly told that the people of GB were not considered the constitutional citizens of Pakistan though; the people of GB were very faithful to Pakistan and were ever-ready to give any sacrifice for Pakistan. He suggested that the government of Pakistan can grant Gilgit Baltistan the constitutional status of a province with the condition that this arrangement would be till the decision of Kashmir.
