PU MMG celebrates Int’l Women’s Day


LAHORE: (Thursday, March 10, 2016): Punjab University Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (MMG) has celebrated International Women’s Day. On this occasion, PU Law College Principal Dr Shazia Naureen Qureshi, Chairperson Department of MMG Dr Anjum Naseem Sabri, extracurricular committee members including Dr Abdul Rehman, Dr Rida Batool, Dr Saba Riaz, Dr Saira Malik and Dr Nageen Hussain of the department, faculty members and students were present on the occasion. In her address Dr Shazia congratulated all the MMG female students and staff on Women’s day. Dr Anjum Nasim Sabri inaugurated the seminar and various stalls. She described that the agenda of this day was to highlight the condition of women especially in Pakistan and the need to implement effective laws to protect their rights. Speakers emphasized on the rights of women in Islam. Dr Nousheen Zaidi recommended female students to build a habit of extensive reading in order to get awareness about their rights. Students including Hina Khan and Amna Sajid shed light on social protection of domestic workers rights and the heinous violence, both physical and sexual, being faced by them.
