Students must not get inspired from the West: Dr Amjad


LAHORE: (Tuesday, August 30, 2016): Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF) Vice Chairman Dr Amjad Saqib has said that students must not get inspired from the West and urged them to seek knowledge to get prominent position in the world. He said it was time to think what we have given to our nation, not that what our nation had given to us. He was addressing prize distribution ceremony held in the honor of position holders of BA/BSc annual examinations 2016 at Al Raazi Hall, New Campus here on Tuesday.

Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Muhammad Fakhar-ul-Haq Noori, faculty members, administrative officials, BSc Annual Examination 2016 position holder students Ms Huma, Zara Nasir, Maryam Saba, BA Annual examination 2016 position holder students Mansoor Ali, Faryal Shahbaz, Ms Attiqa with their teachers and parents were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Dr Amjad Saqib said that unfortunately, as many as 25 million children were out of schools in the country and the living standard of 70 percent population was poor. He said that we must take care of each other. He said that Akhwat Foundation was the largest movement against usury in the world and as many as 1.5 million families, around 10 million people, were getting benefit from the organization. He said that Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif wanted to encourage every talented child living in every nook and corner of the province and that’s why PEEF was established 7 years ago with Rs 1 billion. He said that PEEF had provided scholarships to 1.5 lakh talented students purely on merit and now it had 17 billion rupees.

Addressing the ceremony, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran the world was facing two problems; the great nations were under the control of financial elite of the world because of system of usury which had led to concentration of wealth and the ignorance of the Muslims and their distance from knowledge. He said an Australian Jewish scientist and medical doctor Gideon Polya in his book “Body Count” had revealed that there had been 1.3 billion avoidable deaths during the period 1950-2005 of which 600 million were Muslims. He said we had not realized that the 750 verses of Holy Quran, which is 1/8th part of the Holy Book, stressed to focus on resolving the mysteries of the universe. He said that America’s GDP was around 18 trillion and it spent 2 to 2.7 percent i.e. 360 to 540 billion dollars on research and development per year while Pakistan had a GDP of around 250 billion dollars only and was spending only 0.1 or 0.2 percent on research and development per year. He congratulated position holder students, their teachers and parents on their landmark achievement. Later, Dr Amjad Saqib distributed cheques and appreciation letters among position holders. The position holders both in BA/BSc were distributed cheques of Rs 100,000, 75,000 and 65,000 each on obtaining 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
