ONE DAY SYMPOSIUM ON THE AWARENESS OF DIABETES ORGANIZED BY MMG, PU


LAHORE: (Monday, November 14, 2016): The world "Diabetes Day" is observed on 14th November of every year all over the world. Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, University of the Punjab organized one-day symposium on the awareness of diabetes. The chairperson Prof Dr. Anjum Nasim Sabri inaugurated the ceremony and explained harmful effects of diabetes. She also stressed that we should play our key role to spread awareness of diabetes among local man. Faculty members and a large number of students and guest from other departments make the event successful.
Distinguished delegates from different areas of Pakistan namely Dr. Aziz Fatima (Assistant Professor, SIMs), Dr. Naveed Bhatti (Director-Family Con) mentioned that prevalence rate of diabetes in Pakistan, which is approximately 35.4 million, 9.1% of adults aged 20-79, are living with diabetes. Dr. Samra Imran (Assistant Professor, Home Economics) said that diabetes was responsible  about 342,000 deaths in 2015, Dr. Darima Habib (Sub campus of Gujrat University) presented anti-diabetic herbs. Dr. Sadia Shahzad Alam (Head of the pharmacology department, PGMI) gave association of thiamine with diabetes. The symposium briefed information regarding epidemiology, prevalence, genetics and management of diabetes mellitus as well as on the recent therapeutic approaches to combat the disease.
