Rs 32b interest-free loan provided to poor: Dr Amjad Saqib


LAHORE: (Wednesday, November 16, 2016): Akhuwat Foundation’s Executive Director Dr Amjad Saqib has said that around Rs 32 billion interest-free loan has been provided to 15,000 poor families for their economic and social uplift. He was addressing a seminar on “Akhuwat: A model of Community Development” organized by Punjab University Department of Social Work here on Wednesday. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, Chairman Department of Social Work Dr Zahid Javed, Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chawla, Muhammad Azam Khan, Assistant Professor Sonia Omer, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Addressing the seminar, Dr Amjad Saqib said that the case study of Akhuwat Foundation had been included in the curriculum of business administration school of Harvard University. He said that Akhuwat’s offices had also been opened in Uganda and Kenya. He said that Akhuwat had also aimed at providing free education of high standard to poor students and colleges and university would be established in this regard. He said that the students of social work were social entrepreneurs. He advised the students to live for others and make efforts to fulfill other’s dreams. In his address, Dr Mujahid Kamran lauded the services of Akhuwat Foundation and said that virtue spread through good actions, not through lectures and talks only.
