Women’s education a must for development: Zakia Shahnwaz


LAHORE: (Tuesday, March 21, 2017): Punjab Minister for Population Welfare Begum Zakia Shahnawaz has said that education of women is a must for development of our society and none of a woman is useless, either literate or illiterate. She was addressing one day symposium on “Psychology for Change: Women and Community” organized by PU Institute of Applied Psychology at Al-Raazi hall on Tuesday.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir, Ex-Vice Chancellor and eminent psychologist Prof Dr Najma Najam, Dean Faculty of Life Sciences Prof Dr Naeem Khan, Dean Prof Dr Taqi Zahid Butt, Director Institute of Applied Psychology Prof Dr Farah Malik, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion. Addressing the ceremony, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz said that education was the key to success and the government was focusing on providing education to every child. She said that if 51 percent of the population was educated, what a great country we could have today. She said that working women worked at offices as well as homes.

PU VC Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said that women had achieved many milestones in Pakistani society and playing their role. He said that women served their parents and family with heart. He said that if we provided equal opportunity to women to move forward, our country would prosper. He said that women had low share in labor force of the country. Addressing the symposium, Dr Najma Najam said that women were active agents of change. She said that most decisions made in homes were influenced by women. She said that women had multiple role and best managers. She said that psychologists were taken on board while making policies in the world and our politicians should also involve psychologists while making policies. She said that women had also played important role in post crisis community development. IAP Director Prof Dr Farah Malik said that our society was open minded and believed in women’s empowerment. She said that women had achieved so many milestones. She said that we must make efforts to ensure bright and safe future of Pakistani women. Later, PU VC visited various stalls.
