PU unrest: admin takes action against 17 students in first phase

LAHORE: (Thursday, April 13, 2017): The Punjab University administration has started phase-wise disciplinary proceedings against the students involved in the unrest outside Institute of Education and Research on March 21 after their identification and action has been taken against 17 students initially. According to PU spokesman Khuram Shahzad, out of various students and outsiders identified in the recommendations of the inquiry committee, in the first phase, PU has suspended 10 students on serious violation of university rules creating law and order situation on campus and charge-sheets have been issued to them, seeking response in 7 days. Moreover, he said, details of 7 expelled students have also been provided to police officials for further legal action. The spokesman said that the administration would implement recommendations of inquiry committee and disciplinary action would be taken against the students involved in the incident in phases. He said that peaceful environment would be ensured on campus at all cost. The students who have been suspended include Abdur Rehman and Saim Ullah of Institute of Geology, Usman Rang Ellahi of Hailey College of Commerce, Muhammad Azeem Qureshi of Department of Islamic Studies, Hidayat Ullah and Bahadur Khan of Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Usama bin Shafaat of Department of Space Science, Abdul Baseer and Naqeeb Ullah of Sheikh Zayed Islamic Center and Waleed Mansoor of University Law College.
