Special training needed for special children’s care: PU VC


LAHORE: (Thursday, April 20, 2017): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir has said that special children were important part of our society and there was need of special training to take care of special children. He was addressing a one day consultative workshop on “Inclusion: Harmony Matters” organized by PU Department of Special Education in collaboration with Department of Special Education Government of Punjab at its premises. Dean Faculty of Education Prof Dr Mumtaz Akhtar, Secretary Special Education Punjab Umbreen Raza, Incharge PU Department of Special Education Dr Humaira Banu, Director Punjab Special Education Department Fazal Cheema, Punjab Inclusive Education Project Director Monitory Huma Mir, Director Administration Shah Faisal, Punjab Welfare Trust for The Disabled Director Izhar Hashmi, more than one hundred participants including academicians, policy makers, experts from various public and private sector universities, special and general education teachers, philanthropists and stents attended the event. In his address, Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir lauded the organizers for successfully organizing the event and said that such workshops were one of the prime sources to learn from each other’s experiences.

He said that PU would continue its role for community development. Secretary Special Education Umbreen Raza highlighted steps taken by the government to look after special children and training of teachers. Dr Mumtaz Akhtar said that all the teachers of the department were PhDs and 19 candidates had obtained PhD degrees from the department. Dr Humaira Bano thanked the guests and participants and said that the department would organize such fruitful events in future as well for the welfare of special children and training of teachers. The experts suggested an indigenous model on inclusive education including structural requirements, teachers/teaching skills, content adaptation, adaptation in evaluation and sustaining inclusion.
