SITE Entrepreneurship Summit 2017


Students at Institute of Administrative Sciences (IAS) take part in Akhuwat Clothes bank project on annual basis. This year too, BS class of 2017 has collected 35,000 clothes for Akhuwat Foundation. An Entrepreneurship Summit was conducted on 28th April 2017 at IAS under the supervision of Dr. Shahid Zia, Entrepreneurship course instructor. Dr. Amjad Saqib - Executive Director Akhuwat, was the chief guest for the event. Welcome speech was delivered by Prof. Dr. Nasira Jabeen, Director IAS and Dean FEMS. In her speech, Dr. Jabeen appreciated the untiring efforts of Dr. Shahid Zia and his students towards this noble cause. She shared her feelings of gratitude on behalf of IAS being associated with Akhuwat. Students shared a video of their clothes collection project and dissemination of the collection to Akhuwat’s bank. Dr. Shahid Zia shared the numerous projects of students under his course including the paint project where students painted the IAS benches, water coolers project where water coolers were installed at different places including IAS, Fountain House project and clothes bank project. Dr. Amjad Saqib was then invited to share his views where he appreciated the spirit of public-ness in IAS students. Dr. Amjad Saqib shared the journey of Akhuwat and its objectives to inspire the students. He shared that Akhuwat employs nearly 4000 people in 350 cities of Pakistan having more than 700 offices. This is a matter of quite pride and honor that Akhuwat has traveled internationally and its case study is being taught at Harvard Business School. This is a remarkable achievement that shows the softer side of Pakistan that is tolerant and patient, the one that believes in sacrifice and love. Dr. Amjad Saqib’s talk was highly engaging for students as he shared few aspects of success stories of people of Pakistan that he has published in his book; “Kamyab Log”. Dr. Amjad Saqib requested IAS students, staff and faculty members to join for the cause towards building of Akhuwat University – buy-a-brick project.

 

Towards the end, shields and certificates were distributed among the students that collected largest quantity of clothes. These included Arshia Raheel and Maryam Rizwan as 1st, Fizza Saeed and Sawera Ali as 2nd and Hasna khan and Noor ul Huda as 3rd position holders. As a token of love and respect, Dr. Amjad Saqib was presented with shield and bouquet by Dr. Nasira Jabeen. Faculty members including Dr. A.R. Jafri, Mr. Muhamad Zahid, Dr. Shahid Zia, and Ms. Sobia Khurram along with administrative staff joined for the event.
