PU VC hails education budget allocation


LAHORE: (Saturday, June 3, 2017): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir has hailed Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif on allocating 17.5pc of total Punjab budget to education. In a press statement issued here on Saturday, Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir said that allocation of such a lion’s share to education is a clear proof that the chief minister kept education on top priority. He said that it was also good news for academic fraternity that the budget amount was Rs 33 billion more than the budget for the sector last year. Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir, who is veteran economist of international stature, said that it was the best ever budget for education as education was lifeline for the development of any country. He said that those nations that ignored education faced disasters and were finally overpowered. He said that allocation of Rs 18 billion for higher education, Rs 230 billion for district education authorities and Rs 53.3 billion for development program of school education would help resolve academic, financial and administrative issues being faced by the higher and school education sectors. He said that provision of IT labs to 1,000 elementary, secondary and higher secondary schools having highest enrollment would bring IT revolution in the country and help boost country’s economy. He said that the budget allocation for higher education would help complete 80 ongoing schemes and launch 26 new schemes and 50 degree colleges, community colleges and sub-campuses would be established to provide higher education to the people of the province at their doorstep. He also lauded Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha on reflecting vision of Punjab chief minister in the whole budget and presenting it in an efficient manner. He said that education was one of the most important social sectors and academic fraternity was happy that the Chief Minister had earmarked a huge sum for its uplift. He said that if such policies continued, Punjab’s higher education institutions would make good place in the world.
