Pakistan came into being with vote power: Shami


LAHORE: (Wednesday, August 29, 2018): Speakers in a seminar in connection with Independence Day celebrations have stressed the need for raising awareness among the people about challenges the country is facing. The seminar was organized by Punjab University Pakistan Study Centre (PSC) at its auditorium. Renowned senior analyst Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami, PSC Director Prof Dr Iqbal Chawla, faculty members and students of PhD and M Phil were present on the occasion. Highlighting the background of creation of Pakistan, Mr Shami said that Pakistan came into being with the power of vote. He said that the demand for separate electorate led towards clarion call for separate homeland. He said that Pakistan in its initial phase was virtually without any state structure while India had full-fledged state infrastructure. He said that Prime Minister Nehru and Governor General Lord Mountbatten continued their positions even after partition. He said that Pakistan had to join the non-communist bloc due to economic and security threats by India. He said although this dependency bore some fruit in economic and strategic directions but it casted its effects on our internal economy.
Mr. Shami highlighted that in Pakistan, unfortunately constitutional crises emerged as no government in the past ran the affairs on the basis of constitution. He emphasized for the constitutional supremacy which could guarantee stable and prosperous Pakistan. Dr. Iqbal Chawla stressed the need for academic awareness about the challenges being faced by Pakistan. He argued that our homeland has bestowed immeasurable blessings to us. He said that we owe a lot to our great country. He specially mentioned CPEC which has brought lot of opportunities for better future of Pakistan. He said that the people of Pakistan had pinned great hopes in the present leadership but the real challenge was to translate dreams into reality. The seminar was concluded with a lively question-answer session.
