PU and Chinese Research Institute sign cooperation agreement


LAHORE: (Thursday, July 23, 2020): Harmonization in standardization is of paramount importance for greater economic integration under Belt and Road initiatives and calls for increased cooperation in standardization research’ was the unanimous message of the participants speaking at the occasion of Signing Ceremony of an Agreement for Cooperation between Institute of Quality & Technology Management, University of the Punjab and South Asian Standardization (Chengdu) Research Center. The agreement was signed in an online meeting at which acting Consul General of Pakistan in Chengdu, Mr. Mahmood Akhtar, was the chief guest. The meeting was attended by Dr. Niaz Akhtar (Vice Chancellor University of the Punjab) who signed the agreement on behalf of Institute of Quality & Technology Management (IQTM), Dr. Muhammad Usman Awan (Director IQTM), , Mr. Xie Liping (Deputy Director General of Chengdu Administration for Market Regulation), Mr. Qing ning (Director of Standardization Division of Chengdu Administration for Market Regulation), Mr. Chang Gong (President, Chengdu Institute of Standardization), Zhuang Yuanyuan (Director, South Asian Standardization Research Center) and others.

South Asian Standardization (Chengdu) Research Center is a government-sponsored regional standardization research institution approved by Standardization Administration of China and undertaken by Chengdu Institute of Standardization and Institute of South Asian Studies of Sichuan University. The Center is an important think tank of the Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China (SAC) for research on standardization development in South Asia, a new technological carrier for active integration in the “Belt and Road” construction as well as a new platform for comprehensive cooperation between Western China and South Asia. According to the agreement, Institute of Quality & Technology Management and South Asian Standardization (Chengdu) Research Center will cooperate in by exchanging personnel and undertaking joint research in the fields of standardization, metrology, inspection, testing, certification, accreditation, and market access.The two institutes will also jointly organize trainings and conferences and set up information exchange platforms for mutual benefit. This agreement will help Institute of Quality & Technology Institute (IQTM) in its efforts to help improve access of local manufacturers to lucrative export markets through its research and consultancy in the field of standardization.
