PU IAP organized a webinar entitled "Mental Health outcomes of Stigma for Transgender Persons"


Institute of Applied Psychology organized a webinar entitled “Mental Health outcomes of Stigma for Transgender Persons” to highlight the stigmatization, oppression, and discrimination faced by gender non-conforming individuals in Pakistan. The webinar was chaired by Prof. Dr. Rafia Rafique, Director Institute of Applied Psychology. The resource person for the webinar was Dr. Humaira Jami, Assistant Professor, National Institute of Psychology, Quaid-i-Azam University. Key focus of Dr. Humaira’s research work is the issues faced by the gender non-conforming individuals and transgender individuals. In light of her work, she highlighted the ambiguities associated with identity of transgender individuals and the adverse mental health outcomes of this stigmatization in them. She concluded the webinar by suggesting ways to avoid labeling the marginalized community. This was followed by a Question Answer session by students and mental health professionals. The webinar was attended by mental health professionals, students and faculty members of Institute of Applied Psychology and was also live streamed on the official facebook page of IAP.
