PU defeat HEC in friendly football match


LAHORE: (Tuesday, September 19, 2017): A team of Punjab University has defeated Higher Education Commission 11 in a friendly football match held to pay tribute to HEC’s role in promotion of sports in higher education institutions.

The friendly match was organized at Punjab University Football ground to celebrate 15 years of establishment of Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Punjab University took the lead in 34th minute when their striker Moazzam Ali converted a well placed cross from their right full back Amir Gondal. The score remained the same till the half time whistle. In the second half the HEC 11 played fast and make quick touches and attacked the opponents from different positions which later helped them in scoring a well deserve goal in 49th minute through their left winger Yousaf Ahmad who scored a beautiful solo goal. The score remains 1-1 at full time as well as in extra time. The match was then decided on penalty kicks where Punjab University team goalkeeper Hamza saved the 6th Penalty of HEC 11's player and made a vital role in his team's success. There was a good crowd to watch the match which includes youngsters, students, teachers, staff, etc and they enjoyed the match and shared their views on both the teams, while media teams were also present to cover the event.

Punjab University's Sports Director Dr M. Zafar Iqbal Butt was the Chief Guest of the match. Dr Butt distributed the winner and runner-up trophies to the respective captains. He also shared his views on the match and talked on the importance of sports in one's life and also appreciated and supported HEC’s role in the field of education and sports.
