TEDx Punjab University 2017 - Change in beliefs, actions, attitude stressed


LAHORE: (Saturday, November 11, 2017): Allama Iqbal Open University’s Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that change at beliefs, actions and attitudes would bring sustainable change at all levels. He was delivering a lecture in Technology, Entertainment, Design conference (TEDx) organized for the first time in Punjab University by Department of English Language and Literature here on Saturday. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir, Chairperson Department of English Language & Literature Dr Amra Raza, assistant professor Shahzeb Khan, Dr Tayyab Husnain, Dr Ahmed Bilal, Sara Zahid, Shaheer Niazi, other guests speakers and 100 registered participants were present on the occasion.

The theme of the event was Past, Present, Future of Human Centricity. Delivering his lecture on “Leadership, Inspiration and Change”, Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that change faced resistance and problems however we need to overpower them. He said that change was incremental. He said that there must be good relations amongst employers and employees and a good working environment must be ensured in the organizations. He said that a good leader focused on organization as well as individual’s development. He said that the use of force in the organizations to ensure things done was a misleading approach. Rather, there must be participatory approach in the organizations, he added. He said that AIOU had taken several initiatives for encouraging marginalized segments and areas of the country to pursue education. Talking to media, PU VC Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said that PU administration was extending all-out support for organizing such events in the university. He expressed the hope that such events would be helpful in bringing positive change in our society. Dr Amra Raza said that we must not wait for ‘tomorrow’, let us change ‘today’. Talking to media, Mr Shahzeb Khan said that Punjab University was having its very first TEDx event. He said this was another breakthrough on its way to accomplishment by the utmost efforts of the students of English literature. He said that TEDx was an annual event that brings together the leading thinkers and those who make-do to share ideas that matter in any discipline — technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business, development etc. He said that the TEDx event had extended the spirit of ‘ideas worth spreading’ to an international level through a chain of local, self-organized TEDx events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience under a license issued by the TED conference. On the occasion, Dr Tayyab Husnain, Dr Ahmed Bilal, Sara Zahid, Shaheer Niazi delivered lectures on the topics of “The Molecules of White Gold”, “Filming Pakistan in Zero Budget”, “Power of Theatre”, “My Dream to bring another Nobel to Pakistan” respectively.
