PU HCBF organizes seminar on Islamic Banking


LAHORE: (Friday, April 6, 2018): Punjab University Hailey College of Banking and Finance in collaboration with Al Baraka Bank (Pakistan) has organized a seminar on Islamic banking to keep the students abreast of the developments in the Islamic financial world. Mufti Rafey Ashraf Usmani, Shariah Reviewer of the bank was the guest speaker. Principal HCBF Prof Dr Mubbsher Munawar Khan, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion. Addressing the seminar, Mr Usmani explained in detail the Shariah injunctions on prohibition of Riba. He said that misconceptions on various transactions were elaborated in detail to clarify the students on the subject in the light of Islamic jurisprudence. He said that practical examples were cited to make the students aware of the technicalities. He said that the discussion also included development of various financial instruments including Sukkuk. He also expressed his confidence on the quality of education being imparted at HCBF and expressed his hope that the graduates of HCBF will come up to the expectations of the Islamic Banking Industry. The presentation was followed by an interactive question answer session. Earlier an on-campus recruitment drive was conducted in which approximately 100 graduates participated. The graduates presented their CVs and a later on a test was conducted. The students speaking at the occasion appreciated the efforts of the principal for building strong linkages with the corporate world particularly the financial sector. They praised his efforts for their grooming and development. Some parents also accompanied the female students. They appreciated the on-campus recruitments drives at HCBF, which they considered a positive move to bring female graduates to the banking industry.
