American Society for Microbiology (ASM) launches its first student chapter in Pakistan at Punjab University


The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) launched its first student chapter in Pakistan at university of the Punjab. The purpose of the student chapter is to promote the educational and research culture in Pakistan by offering educational and professional opportunities to students interested in the field of Microbiology and Life Sciences. The chapter aims to create networking among students, faculty, industry and non-profit organizations and collaborate with peers domestically and internationally. The executive team of the chapter included Sadia Nadeem Ch (President), Sarooj Nadeem (V. President), Shafiq Azam Rumi (Secretary), Zainab Waseem Sheikh (Director Public Relations & Media), Syed Zawar Shah (Treasurer) and Dr. Imran Sajid, Assistant Professor MMG (Faculty Advisor).
The chapter organized its first activity at MMG department entitled “One day seminar on Pharmaceutical Quality Testing” in collaboration with ACCI (Associates of CAPE COD, Pharm Canada Pakistan). The seminar included the lectures and hands on practice session on Pharmaceutical Microbiological Quality Testing (Endotoxin testing etc.). The chairperson department of MMG, Prof. Dr. Anjum Nasim Sabri appreciated the efforts of ASM student chapter. Addressing to the inaugural session of the seminar, she said Pharmaceutical Microbiological Quality Testing is very important and applied area, and the training of students on such topics help to build their professional and technical skills. She also thanked the management of ACCI (Associates of CAPE COD, Pharm Canada Pakistan) and showed deep interest in bridging the gap between academia and industry by hosting such events on regular basis.
