Need to translate knowledge: PU VC


LAHORE: (Tuesday, August 7, 2018): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad has said that knowledge should be transferred in different languages to promote languages. He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of three day workshop on understanding scripts of languages for the librarians organized by Institute of Languages at Punjab University Library here on Tuesday. Director General Punjab Higher Education Commission Dr Shahid Soroya, Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, Oriental College Principal Prof Dr Fakhrul Haq Noori, In-charge Institute of Languages Mr. Ashok Kumar Khatri, Chief Librarian Dr Muhammad Haroon Usmani, faculty members and librarians were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Prof Niaz Ahmad said that the workshop would help library professionals and PU administration would encourage translation of knowledge in our languages. He emphasized the participants on taking full advantage from this opportunity to enhance their skills in understanding scripts of different languages such as Sindhi, Pashto, Greek, Spanish, German, Chinese etc. Dr Shahid Soroya said that PHEC would finance such projects for translation of modern knowledge in various fields in Urdu language. He said that such training workshops were helpful for librarians to equip themselves with modern skills and latest developments in their fields. Dr Fakhrul Haq Noori lauded the services of Prof Dr Mazhar Moeen in establishment of Institute of Languages at PU. He said that the workshop would help librarians understanding scripts of languages for identifying language of books at beginner’s level.
