PU to play role in resolving differences in society: VC


LAHORE: (Thursday, October 18, 2018): Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmed Akhtar has urged the faculty and students of PU Institute of Islamic Studies to play their role in resolving religious and social differences in society. He was addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony of new building of Institute of Islamic Studies near Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre, New Campus here on Thursday. Dean Faculty of Islamic Studies Prof Dr Tahira Basharat, Institute of Islamic Studies’ Director Prof Dr Saad Siddiqui, senior faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.

Addressing the ceremony, Prof Niaz Ahmed said that high hopes were associated with faculty members and students of Institute of Islamic Studies. He said that we must seek the solution of our problems in the light of teachings of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW). He said that IIS would create religious harmony in the society and open debates should be held to promote culture of tolerance and peace. He said that IIS must promote critical thinking. He said that the institute and the centre must make efforts to resolve challenges being faced by the country. He said that PU must be role model to guide every segment of the society. He said that PU administration would extend all-out support for all such projects that would play role in socio-economic uplift of the country and society. The VC also announced establishment of Seerat-un-Nabvi Chair at the institute. Prof Dr Tahira Basharat, Prof Dr Saad Siddiqui and others thanked PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmed for extending his support for establishment of separate building for IIS. They said that it was a long-standing issue which was now being resolved. Later, the VC laid foundation stone of the new building.
