Students urged to highlight Pakistan’s positive image


LAHORE: (Tuesday, June 25, 2019): Wife of Punjab Governor Mrs Parveen Sarwar has called upon the students to play their active role for highlighting positive image of Pakistan. She was addressing Students Societies Conference 2019 jointly organized by Punjab University College of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Centre for Health and Gender Equality (CHANGE) at Faisal Auditorium here on Tuesday. Punjab Higher Education Minister Raja Yasir Humayun, PU Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Taqi Zahid Butt, former Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof Dr Nizamuddin, Vice Chancellor University of Management and Technology Dr Abid Sherwani, Pro-Rector Minhaj University Dr Shahid Soroya, renowned analyst Salman Abid, CEES Principal Prof Dr Sajid Rashid, faculty members and a large number of students were present on the occasion.
Addressing the conference, Mrs Parveen Sarwar said that we must not discriminate between son and daughter. She said that 50 percent patients in hospitals were suffering from various diseases due to contaminated water and we must take preventive measures in this regard. Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Humayun said that students were used by political parties in the past however establishment of students societies could engage students in positive activities. He said that we must promote culture of tolerance in universities. Prof Dr Taqi Zahid Butt said that more than 45 thousand students studying peacefully on campus was a proof that there is culture of harmony among students. Former Chairman PHEC Prof Dr Nizamuddin said that co-curricular activities help promote peace, tolerance and harmony among students.
He congratulated PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad for improvement in ranking of Punjab University. Dr Abid Sherwani said that PU students had always played important role in development of Pakistan. Dr Shahid Soroya said that universities were not only meant for obtaining degrees but it is a laboratory to learn from various experiences of life. Mr Salman Abid said that people are much confused in various religious and political affairs and we need to promote tolerance and harmony among them. Prof Dr Sajid Rashid said that in the last three years, PU has played important role in establishing peace in society and as many as 25 co-curricular activities were organized last year in various departments.
