1.    Professor Ismail H Abdullahi

Dr. Abdullahi is a professor of Global Library and Information Science at the School of Library and Information Sciences at North Carolina University. Before joining the faculty at North Carolina Central University School of Library and Information Sciences he was a tenured professor at Clark Atlanta University School of Library and Information Science 1992-2005. Dr. Abdullahi received his Ph.D. in Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh in 1989. He is among the longest and most distinguished serving person in the American Library Association (ALA) and the International Federation of Library Association and Institutions (IFLA). He has served as Chairperson for numerous ALA Committees, including ALA Nominating Committee, the ALA International Relations Committee, The Diversity Committee, and Education Committee and since 2003 as a Councilor-at-Large. In 2017 ALA Annual Conference he was elected by the Council to serve on Committee on Committees for 2017-2018. His service with IFLA is equally distinguished; he served as a member of IFLA Section of Education and Training and founder and Convener of LIS Education of Developing Countries 2005-2013. During this time, he has assisted the African librarians to establish the African Federation of Library and Information Associations and Institutions (AfLIA): an Association of 52 African countries librarians. Consistent with these involvements, he teaches the Global Library Information Systems course in the school and extends his leadership widely to the students. He has served for the last Fourteen years as the advisor to the student Chapter of ALA in the School of Library and Information Sciences, where he assures that students gain experience and have it extend into the national association. In keeping with his dedication to library education nationally and internationally, he is the editor of Global Library and Information Science: A Textbook for Students and Educators widely used as a textbook around the world. Published by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). He has published the second edition “ Global Library and Information Science in 2017. Dr. Abdullahi also created a Study Abroad program to the Royal School of Library and Information Science in Denmark. He is a member of several journal editorial board. His research interest area are: Global Library Information Science, Library management, Organizational behavior, Intercultural Communication, Foundations of Library and Information Science, and Diversity. Among his accolades and awards are the Harold Lancour Award for Excellence in International and Comparative Study in Library and Information Sciences, the Leadership Award of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association, North Carolina Library Association's Roadbuilder's Award for Library Education for exemplifying courage, integrity, perseverance, and positive role model, the Emerald Literatti Network Award for Excellence in Publications, and the Myers Center Award for the Study of Human Rights in the United States.
