LAHORE: (July 01): A meeting of the Management Committee of School of Physical Sciences (SPS), Punjab University held here Tuesday to expedite the establishment of SPS at New Campus.
The meeting decided to perform the groundbreaking for the construction of SPS next week. The meeting held with Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran in the chair at VC office was also attended by the committee’s members including Dean Science and Director Institute of Chemistry Dr Jamil Anwar, Chairman Physics Department Dr Shoukat Ali, Chairman Space Science Dr Muhammad Ali, Director CHEP Dr Haris Rasheed and Director Centre for Solid State Physics Dr Nazima Ikram. The School of Physical Sciences would be built with a total amount of Rs 19 crore out of which the half amount would be paid by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the other half by the Punjab government.
The Punjab government has paid the half amount committed by, however, HEC has released Rs 2 crore and the remaining amount is expected to be released once the project starts. The map of the building has already been approved. The five component departments of SPS, including Chemistry, Physics, Space Science, High Energy Physics and Solid State Physics, have been given go ahead in the meeting to make purchases of equipment out of the portion allocated for the establishment of this school.
It is mention worthy that establishment of SPS has been delayed earlier as then Director of this project Dr Fazal-e-Aleem had been proved guilty in the plagiarism case. |
