LAHORE: (July 05): Punjab University has regularized the services of about 200 daily wages employees, who has been serving the university for the last two or more years and issued appointment letters to the employees in this regard. The appointment has been made as per the criteria set under the Punjab Government rules.
A special ceremony held in the auditorium of PU Environmental Law Centre here at New Campus on Saturday. Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran presided over the ceremony which was also attended by all senior faculty members, administrative officers and a large number of employees. The appointment of 35 chowkidars, 29 sanitary sorkers, 27 naib qasids, 15 library attendants, 14 lab attendants, 10 farash, 6 helpers and others have been regularized.

Speaking on the occasion, VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said he was seeing a file when he came to know that a large number of clerical staff had been working on daily wages for the last many years and were in the state of confusion and uncertainty because of not having regular employment. He said after the regularization of the clerical staff, a committee was constituted to regularize other staff of the varsity under merit-based criteria. He asked the employees to work hard with honesty and commitment. He said no organization can get progress until its staff work hard together with commitment and devotion and today those countries of the world dominate where the majority of people work with honesty and devotion.

Dr Jamil Anwar said it was a general impression that government employees don’t focus on their duties after being regularized but you have to prove this as ‘wrong’ because university is our home and we have to work hard whole heartedly for our home. He congratulated the VC for issuing regular appointment orders of the employees on merit basis and not any pressure.
Later Dr Mujahid Kamran, Dr Jamil Anwar, Dr Liaqat Ali, Dr Shahida Hasnain, Shaista Sonu Sirajuddin, Dr Shaukat Ali and other teachers distributed appointment letters among the employees. A majority of these employees was working on daily wages since 2005, 2006 and they were being transferred from one department of the varsity to the other. They said that they had been worried taking their economic future but now were quite satisfied. Expressing their views, Sajjad Ahmad and Abdul Majeed, working as chowikars, said they were very much satisfied today as they have been regularized. Riaz Masih and Fahim Masih, working as sanitary workers, said they were worried regarding education and future of their children but today they are out of this situation and the credit goes to VC Dr Mujahid Kamran. Washman Muhammad Shakeel and Muhammad Anwar said after getting regular employment letter they would be able to get medical, house rent and other facilities and now they were feeling secured financially. |
