LAHORE (July 09): Punjab University Economics Department MSc Semester II Session 2007-09 students organized a farewell party in the honour of MSc Semester IV Session 2006-08 at the Environmental Law Auditorium last night. PU Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran was the chief guest on the occasion while Economics Department former chairman Prof Dr Abdul Rauf Butt was the guest of honour.

The VC, addressing to the students, said that there was a lot of talent in the Economic Dept students and they could boost up economy of Pakistan by applying better policies in the field of economic. VC said that PU economics department created large number of intelligent economists who were working in various fields of economics in Pakistan as well as abroad. He said economy plays key role in the power politics of the world and even wars and fights among various countries are being fought at the behest of some big economic groups, especially from US. He said that Carl Marks was the first man who spotted the role of economics in the politics properly. He urged the students that their subject was very important and they must educate themselves properly and then work for the economic uplift of the country. The students performed a skit demanding that PU Habib Bank old building be given to the Economics Department.

The VC praised the way of making demand for the building and said that one cannot deny a request made in this style. The students performed various skits at their annual farewell dinner criticizing the previous government’s economics policies especially former prime minister Shaukat Aziz.

On the occasion students also performed a skit named: Shataan (Satin), Deesi Taitanic besides singing classical song and poetry. Additional Registrar Prof Dr Aurangzaib, Physics Department Chairman Prof Dr Shaukat, Gujranwala Campus DG Prof Dr Ahsan Malik and other PU faculty members were also present on the occasion.
