LAHORE: (May 11): Punjab University’s Department of Punjabi will organize a Shah Hussain seminar on Wednesday May 14 at 10:00 am in the Sherani Hall of Oriental College, Allama Iqbal (Old) Campus. PU Faculty of Oriental Learning Dean Prof Dr Muhammad Saleem Mazhar will preside over the seminar.

Dr Muhammad Amin from Multan University, Dr Rashid Mateen from Higher Education Commission and Dr Nabila Rehman from PU Punjabi Department will present their research papers. Iqbal Bahu will present soofiyana kalam of Hazrat Shah Hussain and Saleem Kashir and Khalid will pay tribute through their poems on the occasion. Faculty members and a large number of students will also attend the seminar.

On Thursday May 15, the department will organize a ‘Mefil-e-Mushaira’ at 7:00 pm. Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran will be the chief guest on the occasion. In mushaira, from India, Manjit Indra, Gurbajan F Gill, Indir Jeet Hasan Puri, Shanti Kant Opal including others and from Pakistan Dr Inam-ul-Haq Javed, Zahid Fakhri, Kaleem Shahzad, Saleem Kashir, Talib Jatoi, Zahid Hammad, Tajammal Kaleem, Maryam Ramzan, Soofia Bedar, Dr Naheed, Abbas Najmi, Mudassar Iqbal Butt, Dr Zia-ul-Hassan and others will participate. Punjabi Department Chairman Prof Dr Asmat Ullah Zahid has said Punjabi is the largest language of Punjab province and the conduct of literary seminars, mushairas and lectures is a must to promote the language so that awareness could be developed among people about their identity.

He said this is the language, saints got help to preach the teachings of Islam in the region. He said the seminar had been organized in memory of Punjabi poet Shah Hussain and the department continuously organizes seminars, lectures and workshops etc every year regularly.
