LAHORE: (May 13): Punjab University has won the ‘Best Team Performance Award’ and grabbed ‘Team Trophy’ in PIEAS Festival 2008. The festival was organized by Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Islamabad and it included competitions of Mushaira, bilingual declamation, essay writing, skits, mime, painting, sketch, photography (colour and black & white), documentary and singing.
In Mushaira, PU’s student Bilal Hasrat (Ghazal), Hammad Niazi (Nazam) and Umar Jamshed (English Nazam) bagged first positions. In Bilingual Declamation Mehwish Ayaz (English) and Atif Ali (Urdu) got second positions, in Essay (Urdu) Atif Ali got second position. In All Rounder contest, Bilal Hasrat and Atif Ali grabbed first position, in Living on the Edge contest, Farhat Ullah and Atif Ali stood first, in Skit (team event) PU team got first position. In Mime (team event), PU team bagged second position, in Painting (oil), Asad got second position, in Sketch competition Usman Jamshed stood second, in Photography (colour and black & white separately) competitions, Usman Jamshed bagged both the titles, in Documentary, Kashif got first position and in Singing (before 1990) Hasnain Javaid got first while Singing (after 1990) competition, Farman Abbas got second position.
PU Adviser Students Affairs Dr Mujahid Ali Mansoori said Punjab University has adopted a merit based policy to select the students and provide them opportunities to demonstrate their abilities and present them in various national and international contests. He said the distinction by students in various competitions has proved that there is much potential in PU students and it would increase many fold due to merit based students friendly policy of the administration. He said to promote co-curricular along with curricular activities, the varsity is organizing co-curricular competitions from May 26–29. The team was prepared by Adviser Student Affairs Dr Mujahid Ali Mansoori and Deputy Adviser Zubair Akram while Abdul Qadir was team’s supervisor. |
