LAHORE (Monday, March 16): Punjab University has appointed Department of Zoology Chairman Prof Dr Muhammad Akhtar as Chairman Hall Council.

Dr Muhammad Akhtar appointed research officer in Zoology department in 1982. He appointed as Lecturer in Punjab University Department of Zoology in 1987 and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1989. He got promotion as Associate Professor in 1998 and to Professor in 2003.

Dr Muhammad Akthar did his PhD from Punjab University in Paleontology in 1994 and did research on “Taxonomy and distribution of the Siwalik Bovids”.

He is a fellow member of Pakistan Fisheries Society, Pakistan from 1999 to to-date and remained fellow member of Zoological Society of Pakistan from 1987 to 2007. Dr Muhammad Akhtar is also a member of Editorial Committee, PU Journal of Zoology since 1987.

He has participated in over 30 seminars/workshops/symposiums. His over 70 research articles have been published on various key issues.

5 students have completed their PhDs under the supervision of Dr Muhammad Akhtar while 9 students are completing PhDs in his supervision. 3 MPhil students have also completed their research thesis under the supervision of Dr Muhammad Akhtar.

Dr Muhammad Akhtar is also Member Board of Studies of Government College University Faisalabad and Bahauddin Zakriya University Multan.
