LAHORE (April 19): Punjab University Department of Space Science’s graduate Waqas A Qazi has been selected to attend the 58th Annual Meeting of Nobel Laureates (Physics) to be held from June 29 – July 4, 2008 at Lindau, Germany. Mr Waqas is one among 8 young researchers / graduate students who have been selected from Pakistan this year for this highly competitive award after a rigorous selection procedure including interviews by a panel of eminent Pakistani physicist.
The Lindau meeting held each year and young researchers / graduates are chosen from among three subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Medicine / Physiology. The purpose of the meeting is to sustain world knowledge by inspiring and motivating the young students to adopt careers of research.
The meeting provide several hundred scientists, research scholars and students from all around the world to meet about 15-20 Nobel Laureates for one-week and this year about 500 fellow participants from over 50 countries have been selected in the discipline of Physics. Throughout the years, the Lindau meetings have serves as a base to provide all participants with exceptional opportunities to take part in valuable scientific and personal contacts, irrespective of and beyond national and cultural boundaries. Mr Waqas Qazi has been serving the Institute of Space Technology (IST), Islamabad as faculty member. |
