PU students have best talent and creative abilities: VC

LAHORE (April 24): There is a lot of talent and creative abilities in the students of Punjab University, there is only need to provide them with opportunities keeping in view their creative skills and PU administration is presenting them on various forums and competitions on open merit basis.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran expressed these views in a meeting with the students who have won top positions in different national level competitions. PU Adviser Students Affairs Dr Mujahid Ali Mansoori, Deputy Adviser Zubair Akram and Prof Dr Shaukat Ali were also present on the occasion.

The vice-chancellor said PU students have won many national and international titles during last three-months. He expressed the resolve to promote co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to explore hidden talent of PU students and added that no interference from any group would be tolerated in this regard. He said that PU had a lot of best debaters, painters, photographers, sportsmen, singers and performers and all-out measures are being taken to polish their creative skills. The VC appreciated the services of Dr Mujahid Ali Mansoori and said that he had discovered the hidden talent of the varsity and prepared them for competitions and the students have shown their skills in the competitions.

The VC also appreciated the services of Deputy Adviser Zubair Akram and said he had provided all possible facilities to the students to compete in events. Dr Mujahid Kamran told the students that two teachers of the varsity got Tamgh-e-Imtiaz and one got Fatima Jinnah Award this year while recently PU CEMB has won Islamic Development Bank Award 2008 of US$ 100,000 for services in the field of Science and Technology. Dr Mujahid Ali Mansoori said that in order to explore and streamline PU talent, a policy had been constituted and all departments/institutes/colleges’ student advisers are being contacted in this regard. It is mentioned worthy that PU students, Irtiza Afzaal and Atif Ali won ‘All Pakistan Bilingual Declamation Contest 2008’ while three students of Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT) bagged distinction place in software competitions held at Fatima Jinnah University. Usman, a student of Fine Art Department, secured first position in photography (colour and Black & White) competition. In sports, PU Women Hockey Team won the title in Inter-University sports competition.
