Creation of knowledge is most important profession: VC Dr
Mujahid Kamran


Muslim scientists done great work during 750 -1100 AD
Parents urged to not force their children to go only for medical and engineering degrees

LAHORE (Saturday, March 28): The most important work/profession in the world is to create knowledge and Muslim scientists remained at the height of creating new knowledge from 750 AD to 11th century but after that European and US scientists emerged on the horizon of science and Muslim scientists names vanished from this field gradually.

Punjab University Vice-Chancellor stated this while addressing the annual prize distribution ceremony of Society Public School, Mughalpura. School’s Chairman a renowned journalist, Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Akhlaq-ur-Rehman, Major Imran Qureshi, Fayyaz, Principal Tehseen, students and their parents were also present on the occasion.


The vice-chancellor requested the parents not to compel their children to choose only medical or engineering for higher education but let them choose area of study of their own interest so that they could perform their skills in true capacities. He said there were a lot of other disciplines except medical and engineering education and real work and profession in the world is to create new knowledge. He said he was surprised to see the talented students of the school who had secured distinctions in the Matric and Middle standards examinations and hoped that the many of them would earn fame not only for their school but also for the country. He said that special focus should be given in education and educational budget should be enhanced. He said very low part of GDP was being spent on education at the time.

Dr Mujahid Kamran said the government should focus that our eternity was in education. He said HEC demanded Rs 7 billion from the government for the development work at all public sector universities of the country but unfortunately only about Rs 1.6 billion were provided in this regard. However, on the other hand Rs 7 billion were given to those who had been terminated from the jobs in the past and many of them had been fled from the country.

Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami said he took the responsibility of the School Society as Chairman one year ago and since then teachers' salaries were increased from 30-40%. Talking about character building of the students, he said knowledge (education) is incomplete without practice (good deeds) and both knowledge and practice built character of a man. He said parents and teachers would have to present themselves as role model for the students for their character building.

It is noteworthy that students of the Society Public School had secured distinctions in the Matric and Middle exams. Haseeb Zubair secured 799 out of 850 in the Matric exam, Sana Tariq and Muhammad Asif secured 793 while Muhammad Usama Aziz secured 791 marks. 22 students of the school got 100% marks in Math, 5 students secured 100% marks in Physics, 6 students got 99% in Biology and 2 students secured 99% marks in Chemistry.

Later the Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran distributed shields and cash prizes among the students.
