Inter-collegiate sports championship 2008-2009 prize distribution ceremony


Sportsmen students should keep high targets in their minds: Dr Mujahid Kamran

LAHORE (Tuesday, March 31): Sportsmen students should keep high targets in their minds and to achieve these targets, they should work hard and act upon the advices of their seniors and get benefits from their experiences. These views were expressed by Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran while addressing the prize distribution ceremony of Inter-Collegiate Sports Championship 2008-09 held at Pervez Hassan Environmental Law Centre here at New Campus on Tuesday. Dr Jamil Anwar Chaudhry, Baba Anwar-ul-Haq, Dr Asghar Javed, PU Sports Committee President Sardar Iqbal Moakkal, Principals of affiliated colleges of PU, their sports Inchage and players attended the ceremony.

VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said that PU selects students on merit and sent them in various co-curricular and extra-curricular competitions and as a result, students are winning distinctions in the competitions. He said some years ago, the post of Director Physical Education was converted to General Lecturer and Punjab University Director Sports had also drawn his attention towards this issue. He further said that Punjab University would contact Education Department for the reinstatement of seat of Director Physical Education so that players and faculty members in the colleges could be encouraged.


Dr Jamil Anwar Chaudhry said the services of Baba Anwar-ul-Haq and Sardar Iqbal Moakkal in the Punjab University Sports Department were exemplary.

Sardar Iqbal Moakkal paid rich tributes to PU teacher vice-chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, who he said was himself a very good hockey player and that's why he was giving special attention towards sports. He also congratulated position holders of various events.

It is noteworthy that PU won tug-of-war competition in the Inter-Collegiate Sports Championship 2008-09 while Punjab College of Commerce lifted overall team trophy.

The players of Government College Civil Lines also bagged positions in the championship.
