Mission
“To produce skilled, ethical, and innovative horticultural professionals and to advance the sector through:
1.	Delivering high-quality, hands-on education that integrates scientific principles with practical application.
2.	Conducting cutting-edge research on climate resilience, water efficiency, postharvest management, biotechnology, and value addition in priority crops such as mango, citrus, kinnow, vegetables, and flowers.
3.	Acting as a hub for knowledge exchange and technology transfer between academia, farmers, industry, and policymakers.
4.	Promoting entrepreneurship, ethical leadership, and commitment to food security and environmental stewardship.
5.	Contributing to policy formulation and enhancing Pakistan’s share in global horticultural markets.”
Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
Graduates of the Department of Horticulture will, within four years of graduation:
1.	Excel Professionally — Serve as competent horticulturists in production, research, extension, education, or industry.
2.	Innovate for Sustainability — Develop and implement solutions to address water scarcity, climate change, and postharvest losses.
3.	Lead Agribusiness Growth — Establish and manage entrepreneurial ventures and value-added horticultural enterprises.
4.	Contribute to Society — Promote rural prosperity, food security, and environmental sustainability through ethical practice and knowledge dissemination.
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
Graduates will be able to:
1.	Knowledge Mastery — Demonstrate in-depth understanding of horticultural sciences including pomology, olericulture, floriculture, plant breeding, and nursery management.
2.	Problem Analysis — Identify, analyze, and address complex horticultural issues using scientific reasoning and contextual insight.
3.	Design & Development — Create sustainable, economically viable, and socially responsible solutions for horticultural challenges.
4.	Research Skills — Design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and draw evidence-based conclusions.
5.	Modern Tool Usage — Employ precision agriculture, biotechnology, GIS, and other emerging tools effectively.

The Department of Horticulture at the University of the Punjab is committed to advancing the science, technology, and business of horticulture in Pakistan. We prepare graduates to address critical challenges in food security, climate resilience, sustainable production, and agribusiness through excellence in teaching, impactful research, and active industry and community engagement. Our work focuses on Punjab’s major horticultural crops—fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, and medicinal plants—while integrating modern technologies for national and global competitiveness.
