Department of Plant Pathology Gain Hands-on Experience at Izhar Farms

The Department of Plant Pathology, University of the Punjab, organized an insightful field trip to Izhar Farms on October 22, 2025, offering students an invaluable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in potato and onion cultivation.
A group of B.Sc (7th Semester) and M.Sc (1st Semester) students participated in the visit, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Amna Shoaib (Chairperson), Prof. Dr. Uzma Bashir, and other esteemed faculty members. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Yaqoob Izhar, Managing Director of Yaqoob Farms, along with Mr. Rashid Awan and other senior officials of Izhar Farms. The visit aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, enhancing students’ understanding of modern agricultural practices and field management.
During the visit, farm experts provided detailed demonstrations and guidance on:
Potato and onion seed selection
Identification of different Potato seed varieties
Sowing techniques and crop management practices
Students actively participated in the Potato and onion seeding process, gaining direct exposure to professional cultivation techniques and learning about innovative approaches to crop production.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Amna Shoaib and Prof. Dr. Uzma Bashir expressed sincere gratitude to the Izhar Farms management for their exceptional hospitality and comprehensive demonstrations. They emphasized that such field experiences are crucial for developing students’ technical skills and understanding of real-world agricultural systems.
