Institute of English Studies takes pride in the fact that its MPhil in English Literature program is one of the finest in the country, and has widely contributed to the local pedagogy and andragogy by producing outstanding teachers and researchers for the education sector of Pakistan. It was launched in January 1993 as a two-year research degree which has produced a remarkable number of researchers in the following decades, with expertise in English, American, Continental and Post-Colonial Literatures. The program allows students to study in a competitive and intellectually stimulating environment that focuses on nurturing critical thinking of students.

MPhil in English Literature program is designed to provide advanced scholarly training in the field of English literature and cultural studies. This program offers a rigorous academic environment where students engage deeply in critical theories, advanced research methodologies, and diverse literary texts. In second year, students write dissertation of 40,000 words which is a significant research project that allows students to apply their knowledge and skills to a specific literary or cultural topic. This independent study involves original research, critical analysis, and presentation of findings in a scholarly format. The curriculum is structured to ensure a comprehensive understanding of both traditional and contemporary literary landscapes, preparing students for careers in academia, research, and allied fields.
