PU CAMB organizes seminar LAHORE: (Thursday, November 17, 2016): Asthma Genetics Research Group, Punjab University Centre for Applied Molecular Biology (CAMB) organized a seminar to shine spotlight on lungs and bronchial diseases in collaboration with Pakistan Chest Society and Gulls Association. Energetic and creative team of students headed by Dr. Muhammad Farooq Sabar orchestrated the event. Dr Nadeem Sheikh, Director CAMB chaired the session. Dr. Iqbal Bano Incharge of Pediatric Pulmonology, Children Hospital-Lahore and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf Jamal, Head Pulmonology, Allama Iqbal Medical College-Lahore, President Pakistan Chest Society were present in the event as guest speakers with Prof. Dr. Tayyab Hussnain, Acting Director CEMB in chair. Dr Nadeem Sheikh, Director CAMB inaugurated the session and discussed the wide range of disastrous outcomes of fatal lung diseases. Dr Iqbal Bano addressed the status of Asthma Disease in Pakistan, its bioburden, prevalence, and general public concerns. Dr. Ashraf Jamal elucidated COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) to provide access to state-of-the-art, cutting-edge care to different COPD patients in Pakistan and beyond. Dr. Muhammad Farooq Sabar, Incharge Asthma Genetics Research Group briefed the participants about identified genomic variants associated with asthma in Pakistan. The seminar wrapped up with a concluding session presided over by Chief Guest Dr. Javed Iqbal Qazi, Acting Dean Life Sciences, Punjab University. Besides lectures, video on COPD was also presented in the seminar. This seminar created more awareness and understanding towards the management and risk factors of lung disorders because detection of disease at early warning signs can help us receive the treatment before the disease becomes life-threatening condition.
