PU MMG organized two days Microbial Art Competition


LAHORE: (Tuesday-Wednesday, February 14-15, 2017): Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics (MMG), University of the Punjab has organized two days Microbial Art Competition. Event was sponsored by Musaji Adams and Azad Scientific. The aim of the competition was to develop interest of students in Microbiology, as culturing bacteria in a way beyond traditional culturing. This activity also helps students to learn about the bacteria and its special properties along with culture media. Such activities also adds colors to the life of researchers while working in a closed environment.

 

Students from MMG (PU), School of Biological sciences (PU), Allama Iqbal Medical College and Combined Military Hospital (CMH) participated in the competition. Students from Lahore Medical and Dental College (LMDC) along with their faculty (Dr. Ghulam Mustafa and Dr. Tariq Javed) also participated with great enthusiasm. Among the Jury of competition, Dr. Atiqa Ambreen (Associate Professor and Consultant Microbiologist Gulab Devi Chest Hospital Lahore), Dr. Najma Shaheen (Associate Professor Department of Zoology) and Dr. Ambreen Ahmad (Assistant Professor Department of Botany) evaluated the inoculated plates. Shields from MMG and prizes from sponsors Musaiji Adam and Azad Scientific were awarded to winners. A Quiz based on interesting question related to Microbiology was also conducted between students of different institutes.

 

Prof Dr. Anjum Nasim Sabri (Chairperson MMG), Prof. Dr. Sikander Sultan (MMG), Dr. Ghulam Mustafa (LMDC) and Dr. Saba Riaz (Focal person MMG) concluded the session. They highlighted the importance of such a creative activity in developing interest in Microbiology among the students.
